Database Administrator (DBA) Course

Industry relies on database technology to store, retrieve and present information in a customized and user-friendly format. The Database Administrator (DBA) program develops your knowledge of relational database, design, system performance, backup & recovery, and database security. The program builds on your existing relevant skills of reliability, logical thinking and strong attention to detail. This intensive 24 week program is designed for learners with previous IT experience and prepares you for challenging and exciting opportunities in database administration.

You will master the technical aspects of database administration, using Microsoft SQL Server tools within Windows and Linux platforms. You will also learn to use and manage existing relational databases, then apply these skills in the design and implementation of new databases in accordance with user requirements. With additional relevant work experience and exam preparation study, you will be prepared to successfully challenge and complete the following internationally recognized certifications:

•            Microsoft Certified: Database Administrator Associate

•            Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate

•            Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate

•            Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate

•            Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Scientist Associate

Program Length

Formal classes and labs will run for 20 weeks followed by a mandatory 4 week work practicum. Classes are held Monday to Friday, 5:pm - 9:00pm. Program intakes occur in January (Winter Term) and July (Fall Term) of 2025

 

Ideal Applicant

An ideal candidate for this program is:

  • A motivated, mature person with an IT background who wants to specialize or to upgrade existing skills.

  • An analytical, technically proficient and detail-oriented person.

  • An individual whose approach to problem solving is both creative and logical, depending on the circumstance

  • An individual who can work well as part of a team and enjoy interacting with others

  • An individual who possesses good working knowledge of operating systems such as Windows or Linux.

  • A person who has some experience working with relational databases, and have completed an introductory course in Computer Science.

 

Admission Requirements

At least a “C” grade in O Level English and 2 GCE Advanced Level in Sciences with passes in Maths or Physics OR a minimum of two years post-secondary education from a recognized university, institute or college.

Experience with relational databases (e.g. Microsoft Access) and operating systems (e.g. Linux/Unix, Windows) will be an asset. An introductory computer programming course or  introduction to  Computer Science is required.
